- In order to give the All
progressives Congress a good fight in 2019, there are reportedly some
ongoing secret deals in the Peoples Democratic Party
-
The party is focusing on the unity and reintegration of this country to
make sure all the six geopolitical zones get a fair deal
-
A source disclosed that the party may concede slot of vice president to
south-east while the south-west will get the national chairman slot
- The party is also said to be shutting its doors to defectors from rival party with presidential ambition on its platform
Report
has emerged that the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) may not welcome
presidential aspirants crossing from rival parties in the 2019
elections.
The Nation reports that top
level sources disclosed that ahead of its next elective national
convention, the party has been working on a formula which will
re-integrate all parts of the country and create a sense of belonging
for all.
According to the source,
party leaders have been engaging in horse-trading in the past few weeks
ahead of its next elective national convention.
Report
has it that the PDP leaders are about to reach a consensus to give the
vice presidency to the south-east in order to address the
marginalization of the Igbos.
The party believes that giving the VP slot to the Igbo may solve the ongoing separatist agitations in the country.
On
its part, the south-east caucus is opting to give up any aspiration for
key positions in the National Working Committee (NWC). The only
position it is seeking is the national organizing secretary.
Also,
it was learnt that the position for national chairman has been zoned to
the south-west, alongside other juicy appointments.
These secret deals are the highlights of the horse-trading that has been going on in the party over the last few weeks.
The source said: “These
leaders have built some consensus on power sharing, including the
shutting of our doors against defectors from other parties who are only
interested in our presidential ticket.
“As
an integrated party, we welcome defectors, but we may not concede an
automatic presidential ticket to any of them. We want all those joining
our party to learn the ropes and queue for a while.
“We
believe in party discipline and supremacy; members must have faith in
the party they are joining. No chance for gold diggers again.”
With
the ongoing horse-trading, the presidential ambition of some
politicians from rival party who want to defect to the PDP to fulfil
their presidential aspiration in 2019 may have been subtly foreclosed.
Also the presidential ambition of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state may not be fulfilled.
The source said: “Fayose’s
candidacy cannot fly at all. He is only trying to enrich the selection
process. To us, he is merely playing to the gallery by exercising his
fundamental rights to aspire to any political office and contest.”
Those
allegedly jostling or recommended for the VP ticket in the PDP are
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, Senate deputy president Ike
Ekweremadu, ex-Governor Donald Duke and ex-Governor Godswill Akpabio.
For
the slot of national chairman, those allegedly recommended are ex-Ondo
state military governor, Chief Olabode George, Mr. Jimi Agbaje,
ex-Governor Liyel Imoke and a former national organizing secretary of
the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that the PDP might be settling for Africa's most richest man Aliko Dangote for its 2019 presidential campaigns.
It was reported that the PDP was already making plans to woo the billionaire to contest for 2019 presidency under its platform.
Reacting to the report, Dangote said he is a businessman and not a politician and his name should not be tied to politics.
He said: “I
am an entrepreneur. My passion is to create jobs for Nigerians and not
otherwise. “I am not interested in politics and this is authoritative.
No member of any think tank committee has contacted me. People should
stop dropping my name for the 2019 presidency.”
