CARDIOVASCULAR CARE IN NIGERIA; UNITED HEARTS UPS THE ANTE
Lagos; October 24, 2017: United Heart hospital and clinics, a full
service and well equipped cardiovascular centre has opened its doors to
the Nigerian public in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Centre, determined to reverse the trend of medical tourism, is
the decision of Dr Nwosu to stem and reduce capital flight associated on
medical treatments abroad having spent 33years of postgraduate medical
training and cardiology practice in the United States.
Speaking on the decision to leave the comfort of his thriving and
comfortable medical practice in a well-structured and organised society,
Dr Nwosu stated that ‘Nigeria has serious challenges in many areas but
we can make a difference especially in the specialty area of
cardiovascular diseases’.
Speaking further, he said, “I have had the benefit of practicing
with first class medical equipment, infrastructure and in a conducive
environment. The trend of Nigerians going to India, UK, USA, and South
Africa is one we are poised to reverse and with significant cost savings
for those who will take advantage of what we have brought to their
doorsteps”.
The centre which already has become the toast of some of the top
Health Management Organisations (HMOs) commenced operations in the
second quarter of 2017 and has already received raves from walk in and
referred patients.
Speaking at the opening of the facility, the Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi former
MD of Daily Times of Nigeria, said “we are pleased to welcome Dr Nwosu
and United Hearts into the ever bubbly city of Lagos. Lagos is the
commercial heartbeat of Nigeria and there is no better place for a
cardiovascular centre of this magnitude and standard to be situated than
Lagos.
I am well acquainted with the founder of the centre Dr Nwosu and his
years of professional practice and I can vouch for what he has come back
home to do – make quality cardiovascular care available and affordable
at a fraction of the cost many people go to spend abroad”.
He added that ‘Lagos is proud to have complementary private sector
practice to cater to the health challenges of the teeming population on
the state as the huge investments of the state government in health
centres cannot meet the needs of all Lagosians ’.
United Hearts Hospital and clinics boasts of ECG, cardiac monitor,
ambulatory blood pressure monitor, exercise stress test, stress
echocardiogram, transthoracic echocardiogram, transeosephagial
echocardiogram, interventional cardiology, pacemaker and ICD, X-ray and
laboratory services, pharmacy, health education, preventive cardiology
and lipid clinic, functional cardiology and wellness as well as
