Man Utd want Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic in January

Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly preparing a mega million bid to sign Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic when the January 2018 transfer window opens.

According to the report by Mirror, United boss Jose Mourinho has told the club's chiefs that he needs the 23-year-old Croatian in his squad next year.

The report also stated that Jose Mourinho wants Mateo Kovacic to be a good cover up for Frenchman Paul Pogba who has been out for many games due to injury and suspension.Kovacic is a similar type of player to Pogba possessing the technique and composure to run with and play the ball with speed.

But he has struggled to hold down a spot under Zinedine Zidane following a £25m move from Inter Milan in the summer of 2015.

Meanwhile, it is not yet clear if Real Madrid would allow Kovacic to join Manchester United in January as NAIJ.com had earlier reported how the club confirmed that none of their players will leave next year.
